The Piauí is a state full of great contrasts; while its economy is not between strongest of the Country, its territory guards an historical treasure of inestimable value, the National Park of Capivara.
Here is the most important National park of all Brazil and Americas. All indicates that in this region, in a prehistoric scene in the middle of the "sertão", the American man was born, from much more time than it could be imagined.
Although its coast does not exceed the 66 km, the State of Piauí possesses a privileged ecosystem, constituted from various islands, lakes, "igarapé" and beaches of fine sands, covered from dunes and palms of coconut.
Here it is moreover the Delta of the Parnaiba, the only delta of the three Americas that leads directly to the open sea; and the National Park of the Seven Cities, where prehistoric paintings on caverns and rocks formations going back to 400 million years ago are scattered in a great reserved area.
The capital of the Paiuì is Teresina, but its most famous city is Parnaiba, in the past an important port on the delta of the homonymous river, today a quit colonial citizen with a great fascination given above all from the old harbour zone called Port das Barcas.
The delta of the Parnaiba has an extension of 2700 kmq full of islands, beaches, lagoons, sand dunes and forests of mangroves, populated by a very rich fauna.
Natural beauties together with incredible archeological wealth compose the picture of the wonders of the State of Piauí.
